New project targets greenwashing in fashion and footwear

Greenwashing often leaves consumers uncertain of the facts or who to trust, and TCLF companies frustrated by false green claims. The initiative brings together partners from Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Italy and Greece, including footwear producers, vocational training providers and consumer representatives, to try rectifying this.

Meeting in Brussels from October 22–23, the consortium outlined its mission to equip the sector with the tools to recognise and prevent misleading environmental claims while supporting the EU’s sustainable transition goals.

The Policy Report explains key EU legislation on green claims, highlights best practices and provides recommendations for clearer, more effective policies. Based on an industry survey, it identifies a strong need for improved training and collaboration to advance the sector’s green transition.

The Online Training Course offers six interactive modules, featuring quizzes and augmented reality elements, designed to teach professionals and students about sustainability, green marketing and the dangers of greenwashing. A Coaches’ Guide and Roadmap accompany the course to help learners apply their knowledge in practice.

To promote the new tools, project partners are hosting local workshops and events. The VETting Green project is co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union.
