Production and exports in China leather sector sets a record in 2010

China leather industry has completely got ride of financial crisis in the first quarter of 2010, since then the industry showed rapid growth and set  a historic high in output and exports value. The industrial performance for 2010 are summarized as following features:


Production maintained high growth with a rising of 26.9% to 747.3 billion yuan, accounting for 5.4% of national light industry output value.


Production and sales maintained balance, the sale rate was 98.3 percent, up 1 percentage points on last year's same period.


The foreign trade showed a strong growth in the industry and hit a record high, exports for leather and leather products saw a growth of 33.8% to US$ 53.83 billion while imports for the same products up 34% to US$6.11 billion. Foreign trade for footwear posted a high growth in 2010, 26.6% increased in export value that reached US$ 33.66 billion, 9.93 billion pairs were exported, up 21.5% in volume compared with the same period of last year. The imports grew 13.9% in volume to 32.86 million pairs and 33.6% in value to US$850 million.


Production of light leather were mainly produced in the areas of Zhejiang and Hebei provinces, but also saw a high growth in Shandong and Midwest provinces, such as provinces of Guangxi, Sichuan, Gansu and Hubei.


Leather shoe made in Guangdong, Fujian and Zhejiang province represented 80% of national production, following by Shandong province with 3.9%, Jiangxi with 2.5%, Henan with 1.7% and Chongqing with 1%.
