The tanning can be turn to a green industry with employed of cleaner production
The pilot project on technical integration of tanning cleaner production and green industry is one of National Science and Technology Supporting Programs during the eleventh five-year plan, which has played a significant role to develop circulation economy in leather making industry.
The 9 tanneries firstly set for pilot projects have began to employ the cleaner production technology, and promotion of cleaner production technology has started in 15 bovine leather making companies, and 20 swine leather tanneries, the data collected in the pilot projects shows 31% of water consumption are saved, sulphide emission dropped by 88%, COD, SS and TS cut by 47%, ammonia and nitrogen down by 67%.
China is a largest leather making country that can generate more than 400 billion yuan of annual output value, but sever pollution are also generated in the industry, we should make a breakthrough on technology of cleaner production, professor Shi Bi said, otherwise the industry will face huge pressure from the environmental control.
Professor Shi said in the next five years the pilot technology in cleaner production will be employed in 70% of Chinese tanneries, strategic alliance should be established between science institutes and tanneries, so as to accelerate the transferring the hi-tech into production.
