The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Station was shelled twice on August 5, resulting in hydrogen leakage, radioactive material spread, and fire risks, posing a threat to neighboring countries.

The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Station is one of the largest nuclear power stations in Europe and the largest nuclear power station in Ukraine, generating 25% of Ukraine's total power generation.

Three oil storage tanks exploded at the oil storage base in the Port of Matanzas industrial zone in Cuba, and the fire caused by the explosion may further exacerbate the energy shortage.

It is reported that after the explosion, the thermal power plant in the area had only enough oil to last for two days, and many places had to cut off power and implement power limitation measures.

High temperatures caused European rivers to dry up and waterways to shut down.

The water level of the Rhine River has dropped to a dangerously low point. The shipping on the river may stop, and the transportation pressure of coal, petroleum, and chemicals will increase. The production capacity of the two major coal-fired power stations in Germany and the chemical giants such as BASF, Covestro, LANXESS, and Evonik will be affected.

Except for the Rhine River, Hannah Cloke, a professor of hydrology at the University of Reading, said water levels were low in several major rivers, including the Thames, which had almost completely dried up upstream.

The drought is putting pressure on the already fragile European economy, and European countries' government finances will also be affected, said Lucrezia Reichlin, a professor of economics at the London Business School.

Hydropower is also the fourth largest source of electricity in the European Union. Drought has led to the depletion of important reservoirs and rivers in many European countries, and the power outage crisis has also spread in Europe.

▶France: French power giant EDF said it will further cut nuclear power output and keep the power generation output at the lowest level to maintain the stability of the power grid.

▶Switzerland: Switzerland's Beznau nuclear power station has been affected by high temperatures and has reduced power generation.

▶ Norway: The Minister of Petroleum and Energy said that if the water level of reservoirs drops lower, it will be possible to restrict power exports.

France and Norway are both major power suppliers in Europe, and Norway is Europe's largest power exporter. The measures to restrict power exports may lead to large-scale power outage risk in Europe.

The rapid decline of hydropower generation will lead to a sharp increase in alternative demand, and Europe's demand for natural gas will increase. But the high price of natural gas in Europe may cause many enterprises to stop production.
