Steve Madden Skechers sues Steve Madden over S logo trademark

The lawsuit claims that the Steve Madden trainers feature “essentially a stylised ‘S’ of similar (if not nearly identical) proportions” to the S on Skechers footwear.

Skechers has demanded that Steve Madden cease using the S logo on its trainers and pay an unspecified amount in damages.

The brand also said that Steve Madden is using the logo on “similar products marketed to the same consumers in the same channels, making it highly likely that consumers will be confused as to whether Skechers is responsible for, distributes, has authorised or licensed, or is otherwise involved with the shoes that Madden is selling”.

Skechers previously sued Steve Madden for infringing on its footwear design patents in 2015, and the companies settled in 2016.

The case is Skechers U.S.A. Inc v. Steven Madden Ltd, U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, No. 2:23-cv-04869.
